A word from Shirley Glines (our 4’s teacher)

March is another busy month with lots of special  activities.  Each class will participate in a field trip this month.  We will focus on good health by looking at healthy eating, exercising, taking care of our teeth and why it is necessary to visit the doctor to stay healthy (for those dreaded immunizations).  The 3’s will visit Dr. Waxman’s office to ride in the chair and squirt some water.  Lauren Sheets (jaci & Nichole NCP graduates) is a dental hygienist for Dr. Waxman.  The 4’s will visit the Glasgow Medical Aid Unit.  We will see the x-ray equipment, and examination room and the lab area.  If you ever need to take your child to an emergency room to get x-rays, I hope this visit will reduce the amount of fear they have.  Scott Vogel will be here to talk about “Sammy” the dog.

The 4’s parents will notice me spending more time with each student individually in order to do some evaluating of specific skills.  As Kindergarten registrations are held, you may hear your child expressing fears about leaving Mrs. Glines.  These comments are normal.  Reassure them that Kindergarten does not start right away.  They will remain in the 4’s class for a while longer.  Visit  the outside play area of the school where your child will attend Kindergarten often.  This will help them feel more comfortable in their new school in Sept.  If you have questions about your child, please see me, you do not need to wait until end of the year conferences.

A word from Joe Cutter (our 3’s teacher)

During March we will be focusing on health and nutrition.  We will talk about the kinds of foods we eat and how we can have healthy, strong bodies.  As you pour your corn flakes or use other packaged foods, you might want to point our to your child the food pyramid on the box or container.  We will be using this system to discuss types of foods and how they help our bodies.

We anticipate a visit from Hannah the Happy Tooth and a field trip to Dr. Waxman’s dental office.  I would also like to arrange a trip to Pathmark so we can see where some of our foods come from.  Keep an eye on our bulletin board for sign-up sheets for drivers and extra helping parents.

Many thanks to all of you who have helped the class run smoothly.  I appreciated the extra hands for our Valentine’s Day party.  Special thanks to Patty Mooney for bringing in candy making supplies.

A note from the President

I hope everyone received their raffle tickets for our spring fundraiser.  Again, a special thank you to Carol Bischoff and Leslie Bernens for coordinating our fundraising efforts!

Thanks to everyone for sending in their Genaurdi’s receipts.  Keep them coming.  Also, another reminder that our monthly newsletters are posted on our Website, https://members.tripod.com/newarkcooppreschool.

A special reminder to everyone to attend our March meeting.  We will be discussing important business matters such as next year’s Board of Directors and budget.  Remember any questions or comments just call (733-0114) or e-mail (matsanka@hotmail.com).

A note from the Educational Director

Registration Update - since fewer than 16 children enrolled in the A.M. 4’s class for the 2000-2001 school year, a lottery was not needed.  Registration opened to the public on February 15th.  If you are a returning family and plan to send your child here next year, but have not sent in the registration, do so immediately.

The annual business meeting will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday March 21st.  As stated in the handbook, each family should be represented at this meeting.  The Board of Directors for the next school year will be elected and the new budget will be approved; the business portion will be followed by a brief review of the curriculum for those who are interested.

If you and your child are staying after school to enjoy the spring weather, please reinforce the preschool safety rules: slide down the sliding boards only, no crawling up, walk around the sandbox lid, climbing onto the top of the black tunnel, and no tackling or pushing.  Let’s work together to keep our children safe.

Field trip information:  The teachers plan placement of the children in the cars for the trips.  If you have a special request for your child’s placement, please see the teacher prior to the day of the trip.  If you want to participate in the trip, please sign-up.  Car seats may be dropped off at school when you drop off your child.  Please label  your child’s car seat.

Picture Days:      Lifetouch will be doing our photographs early in the month.  Feel free to dress up your child.  We will plan “neat activities” on these two days.  You san send along a change of clothes if you prefer.  We will need one picture day helper in each class.  Watch the bulletin board for a sign-up sheet for this.  Pictures times will be 10:15- 11:15 and 12:45 - 1:45.  Siblings may also be photographed but they must be able to sit up on their own.

Special Thanks

Special thanks to each family who sold Human-i-tees, to Leslie Bernens (Anna 4’s am) and Carol Bischoff (Derek 3’s am) for coordinating the Spring fund-raiser, Diane Roberts (Sam 4’s am) for editing and typing the monthly Newsletter; Anthony Farina (Nicole 3’s pm) for helping with the publicity in the News Journal and the Newark Post; to Linda Hodgkin (Eric 4’s am) for coordinating the T-shirt sales and the school pictures.

Parent Meetings

Our January parent meeting was sparsely attended.  A few families were left to discuss and decide upon the Spring Fund-raiser.  Part of the responsibilities you have with the cooperative preschool is for a family member to attend each monthly meeting.  The meetings are usually brief, but informative.  This is a forum where you can address concerns and get answers to questions.  Babysitting is available in the classroom for $2.00 per child.  PLEASE ATTEND THE MARCH MEETING!
