Newsletter articles are due by February 16th to Shirley.

A word from Shirley Glines (our 4's teacher)

During the month we will talk about our body and how it works. To show the children how much they have grown; they should all bring an item of clothes they wore as a baby on the 4th. This unit will be followed by a unit on Showing Love which will end with our Valentine's parties on the 14th and 15th.

We will spend the rest of the month learning about books and how to create a book. The 3's will make an are book and the 4's will create a number book. This activity will end with a book exchange on the 28th and 29th. Each child should bring in a used book they no longer want. All the books will be mixed up and each child will select a "new" book to take home. Books should be turned in February 17th through the 25th. Do not send in super-hero books or Power Ranger type books. Each book should have a good cover and all pages intact.

We will exchange Valentine's cards at our parties on the 14th and 15th. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to create Valentine's greeting for all the children in the class. Use your class list to avoid missing any friends. Paper hearts decorated with glitter, sequins or paint are always popular.

Crazy sock day is a day to wear mis-matched socks or a special pair of decorated socks or cute character socks. Tuck pants legs in so we can see the socks.

I have been saying rhyming words and opposites with the children. Unfortunately I do not get the opportunity to do this as often as I would like. Please, do this with your child. It is a great way to pass the time in the car, in a doctor's office or just when some quieter, calmer time is needed. The children love to recite nursery rhymes.

I am looking forward to meeting all of the 3's on Thursday, February 24th when I will be "Mr. Cutter's sub" for the day.

A word from Joe Cutter (our 3's teacher)

Let's make February a colorful month! Starting on Thursday, February 3rd, we will celebrate a different color each day:

2/3 Purple
2/8 Blue
2/10 Orange
2/15 Red (for Valentines Day)
2/17 Green
2/24 Yellow
2/29 Brown

Children can dress, at least in part, using the color of the day. (Hair dye is optional!!) Bringing in items that are colored appropriately is fine, too. We will be focusing on our main themes during these days, but I thought it would be fun to keep the kids thinking about colors, too. I will post reminders in the classroom. Have Fun!!

During the month we will continue our study of the body, celebrate Valentines Day, make art books, and have a Pajama Day (what kind of slippers does Mr. Cutter wear?!?). There is no school for the 3's on Tuesday, February 22, and on Thursday, February 24th, Mrs. Glines will be teaching the class. Please write important dates on your calendar or keep the newsletter handy.

Thanks for your continued support of our parent cooperative school, whether by donating apple juice, answering phone calls of prospective parents, volunteering to distribute NCP flyers, attending parent meetings, etc. You really make our school work!

A note from the President

Welcome Winter!!! Please remember to dress the children appropriately during the cold weather. I know the teachers still like to take the children outside to enjoy the winter weather! Board of Directors

The Board of Directors met on Thursday, January 6th 2000 to prepare registration materials and discuss the budget for the upcoming school year. The Board will present a budget to the members at the March Business meeting which keeps tuition at the same rate for the 4's for 2000-2001 school year but does include an increase in the 3's to $65.00 per month. This increase keeps NCP in line with other preschools.

Things to Remember

During the cold and flu season, please be considerate of the other children and teachers. If your child or you as a parent helper have had a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea within the last 24 hours, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL. But, remember that it is your responsibility to obtain a replacement helper.

When parking, please do not park in the places close to the dumpster even when you are just dropping your child off, The city of Newark has been unable to empty the trash due to being unable to back the truck up to the dumpster. Thank you for your help.

When you are helping in the classroom it is appropriate to remind the children to use good manners.
