Registration for next year

Registration for the 2000-2001 school year begins on January 15th for any family currently with a child enrolled or any returning family. Registration forms for all currently enrolled 3's and any returning 4's will be distributed via cubbies for those in school this year, via mail for those returning. Completed forms and fees must be returned to Suzanne Mack before February 14th to retain returning family status. If more than 13 returning families request the A.M. 3's class or more than 16 for the A.M. 4's class, a lottery will be instituted on February 15th. The first 13 (3's), 16 (4's) name drawn will fill the A.M. class. Others will be placed on a waiting list for the A.M. in order names are drawn and will be assigned to the P.M. class.

If you have younger siblings you wish to register for the 2000-2001 school year, you need to call Suzanne with the child's name. Indicate you are a returning family. Registration forms will be distributed January 15th.

DO NOT BRING FORMS TO SCHOOL. THEY MUST BE MAILED. THANK YOU

A word from Shirley Glines (our 4's teacher)

As we move into The second part of the school year. I have good, warm feelings about what we have been able to accomplish. The children are growing in so many ways. I hope you are taking notice of the changes. As we begin 2000, I would like to thank all of our preschool families for helping to make the first months of school GREAT!

The 4's will begin some new activities this month. On January 10th the children will begin to sign in when they have placed their bag in their cubby and hung up their coat. They will need to find their name and place it in the "I am here" basket. On January 24th we will begin letter box activities. Each week we will focus on a different single sound consonant. We will make the sound, learn to recognize the capital and lower case and we will find things that begin with the letter of the week. Some weeks we will make a poster, some weeks we will bring items from home that begin with our sound. Look for reminder notes in the backpacks.

One thing I strive to do is to build self confidence in the children. The most important thing any of us can do for our children is to make them feel successful. You can help by encouraging your child to do things for himself/herself. Be enthusiastic when you receive projects or artwork. A child's class project does not need to look like the teacher's example. A successful project for 3 and 4 year olds is anything they create.

A word from Joe Cutter (our 3's teacher)

Happy New Year! I hope the beginning of 2000- finds your family healthy and ready for new adventures and challenges. After a long vacation from school it is hard to get back into the routine, but, barring snow days, we will try to make January very regular. Speaking of snow, I intend to take full advantage of any snow we have at outside time, so please dress your child accordingly. Mittens are easier for all of us. We will be talking about winter and about our senses in January. Expect a sharing day on Thursday, January 6th and look for dates for a Teddy Bear visit at the end of the month.

Many thanks to all of you who helped set up the Holiday Shoppe and our Holiday Parties, and to those who could take time out to attend them with your child. Your children look forward to seeing you on these special days. Special thanks to Leslie Lasher and Suzanne Cybulski for coordinating the 3's Holiday Shoppe.

As the year goes on, we all focus a bit more on number and letter recognition with the threes. Please remember that some children will be eager to discuss and try writing some letters and numbers, and some children will have no interest at all. Either response is appropriate at this age. I want to provide an environment where children can progress at their own levels. If you have concerns or questions about what we are doing in class, please bring them up with me after class or with a phone call.

Thanks again for your holiday presents and cards. My family and I had a great time sharing your gifts.

A note from the President

Well the holidays are over and welcome to the New Year! I want to thank everyone who helped with the Family Holiday Party and the individual class Holiday Parties last month. I hear they were a great success! Also a special thanks to Carol Bischoff and Leslie Bernens who helped NCP complete another successful fundraiser! Thanks goes out to Linda Hodgeman for coordinating the school t-shirt/sweatshirt orders.  An additional thanks to all families who donated snacks or housekeeping supplies during the fall! It is great to see everyone working together! Remember if you are enrolling a child for preschool next year, registration materials will be out shortly.  And don't forget to spread the word about NCP to family and friends.  We will be looking for full enrollment next year. If you have any questions/comments, please contact me via e-mail (matsanka@hotmail.com).

A note from the Educational Director

Snow days will be announced on WDEL (1150 AM), WNRK (1260 AM) and WSTW (93.7 FM) radio stations. A decision about canceling school will be made as early as possible. A phone tree message will be sent only if NCP is doing something different than the Christina School District. Please keep your most recent class list by the telephone so you can call the next person on the list if you receive a message about school.

We will go out in the snow, so dress your child accordingly.
If you will be involved in the school next year, please consider taking a Board of Directors position. Call Colette Matsanka to discuss positions available.

Calendar adjustments: the 3's will have an Inservice Day on February 22nd. April 19th and 20th will be our spring party days.
